"If You Sever the Hands, They Can Not Be Martyrs"

This piece can be very shocking to some. This is especially true if they view the hands themselves as religious symbols. Its true that my recent work has been very influenced by the ideas and mindsets of those who follow organized religion. Although it appears that it is highly influenced solely by western religions, this is not true. This is just a more identifiable aspect worldwide. I mean for this to be symbolic to all religions.
The idea behind this piece, and all "severed hand" pieces that I do, is that if these people we call martyrs did not have hands they would not have a way to create, communicate, take, share, etc. Also, the modern parallel to this phenomenon is that if the modern man severed his own hands then we could not create, write, caress, hold, give, take, etc.
This simple idea highly intrigues me.
